New Brunswick Franchise Opportunities

Row of trucks

The TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise opportunity for New Brunswick includes the cities of Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John.

Ideally the franchise would be located in either Moncton or Saint John, with satellite locations being established in the neighbouring cities.

Moncton is a city located in Westmorland County in southeastern New Brunswick. Situated in the Petitcodiac River Valley, Moncton lies at the geographic centre of the Maritime Provinces. The city has earned the nickname “Hub City” due to its central location and history as a railway and land transportation hub for the Maritimes.  The Moncton CMA has a population of 144,810 (2016), making it the largest CMA in New Brunswick and the second-largest CMA in the Maritime Provinces.  The strength of Moncton’s economy has received national recognition and the local unemployment rate is consistently less than the national average.

The underpinnings of the local economy are based on Moncton’s heritage as a commercial, distribution, transportation, and retailing centre. This is due to Moncton’s central location in the Maritimes: it has the largest catchment area in Atlantic Canada with 1.6 million people living within a three-hour drive of the city.  The insurance, information technology, educational, and health care sectors also are major factors in the local economy with the city’s two hospitals alone employing over five thousand people.

A number of nationally or regionally prominent corporations have their head offices in Moncton including Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Assumption Life Insurance, Medavie Blue Cross Insurance, Armour Transportation Systems and Major Drilling Group International. Moncton also has federal public service employment, with regional head offices for Corrections Canada, Transport Canada, the Gulf Fisheries Centre and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

In 2016 Saint John became the second largest city in New Brunswick. It is known as the Fundy City due to its location on the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the Saint John River.  The Saint John metropolitan area covers a land area of 3,362.95 square kilometres across the Caledonia Highlands, with a population (as of 2016) of 126,202.

The sea has shaped Saint John, the only city located on the Bay of Fundy.  Saint John has a long history of shipbuilding at the city’s dry dock, which is one of the largest in the world.  Since 2003 shipbuilding has ended on the scale it once was forcing the city to adopt a new economic strategy.  The University of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Museum and the New Brunswick Community College are important institutions along with Radian6 and Horizon Health Network and many others are a part of Saint John’s fast growing research and information technology sectors. As the city moves away from its industrial past it now begins to capitalize on the growing sector of tourism, having over 1.5 million visitors a year and 200,000 cruise ship visitors a year, creating a renaissance in the city’s historic downtown (locally known as uptown). Many small businesses have moved into Uptown and large scale waterfront developments are underway such as the Fundy Quay (condo, hotel and office space), Saint John Law Courts and the Three Sisters Harbour front condos.

The arts and culture sector plays a large role in Saint John’s economy. The Imperial Theatre is home to the highly acclaimed Saint John Theatre Company, and the Symphony New Brunswick and hosts a large collection of plays, concerts and other stage productions year round. Harbour Station entertainment complex is home to the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL and the Saint John Riptide of the NBL.

Fredericton is the capital of the province of New Brunswick. The city is situated in the west-central portion of the province along the Saint John River, which flows west to east as it bisects the city; it is the dominant natural feature of the area. One of the main urban centres in New Brunswick, the city had a population of 58,220 in the 2016 census. As a provincial capital, its economy is inextricably tied to the fortunes of the public sector; however, the city also contains a growing IT and commercial sector. The city has the highest percentage of residents with a post-secondary education in the province and one of the highest per capita incomes.

The 19th and early 20th centuries, the lumber industry, with its corresponding mills, was a primary sector of Fredericton’s economy. Over the course of the 20th century, this industry declined and gave way to the provincial government and the universities becoming the primary employers in the city. Fredericton hosts several major research centres – dealing with policy development, agriculture, forestry, and engineering.  These research institutions are connected to the city’s two universities as well as the provincial and federal governments.

Saint John, Fredericton & Moncton are the exclusive marketing areas (franchise territories) identified by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® for the province of New Brunswick, with a combined population base of 596,522 notwithstanding that it will be the only franchise to service all of NB.

New Brunswick is clearly on the move!
